OUR ROOTS

At Inoculum Bio-Solutions Ltd., our journey started long before we were compost makers—it began with food. As former farm-to-fork food truck owners, we were deeply committed to sourcing ingredients locally and showcasing the incredible bounty available right here in Nova Scotia. Our truck wasn’t just about serving good food—it was about starting conversations. It became a space where farmers, growers, and food lovers could connect, where ideas were exchanged, and where stories were literally written—on the walls, in chalk, by the hands of those who shared our passion.

Through those conversations, we saw firsthand the challenges and passion within our local food system. We believed that strong, resilient communities started with access to real, locally grown food, but we also began asking bigger questions:

  • How do we protect and strengthen our food systems?

  • What does true food sovereignty look like?

  • How do we create a future where local food isn’t just an option, but the foundation of thriving communities?

That’s when our friends at Catalyst Bio-Amendments introduced us to the world of soil microbiology. They helped us realize that the key to truly good food starts with the soil—living, thriving, biologically rich soil. This revelation changed everything. Wanting to learn more, we joined them in 2023 on the Microbe-Bus Tour, traveling from California to Nova Scotia. Along the way, we facilitated thermophilic compost workshops, connected with farmers, and immersed ourselves in the world of beneficial microbes. This experience was the missing piece—the answer to how we could regenerate our family farm and help others do the same.

Founded by Chad Dewtie, a generational farmer with a passion for regenerative practices and permaculture, Inoculum Bio-Solutions was born. Our mission is simple: heal the soil, strengthen communities, and create a thriving, resilient future for agriculture. Because when we nurture the soil, we nurture everything that grows from it—our food, our farms, and our future.

Our Team

Chad Dewtie

Founder & CEO

Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Chad Dewtie has always had a deep connection to the land. From a young age, he spent much of his time in the woods—trapping, hunting, and learning to respect the natural world. His grandparents were blueberry and potato farmers, and today, Chad is working to restore that legacy—this time with a focus on soil regeneration and sustainable agriculture.

Before founding Inoculum Bio-Solutions Ltd., Chad spent several years in Ecuador, working on a reforestation project in the Cloud Forest. This experience deepened his understanding of ecosystem health, biodiversity, and the importance of working with nature rather than against it. Now back in Nova Scotia, he’s applying that knowledge to regenerative farming, helping farmers rebuild soil health, strengthen food systems, and create more resilient landscapes.

Honey Dudka

Co-Founder & Creative Business Lead

Honey’s journey into farming didn’t begin with a long lineage of farmers, but her roots in the land run deep. Raised with a love for gardening, she spent her childhood alongside her grandfather, a well-known Atlantic Giant pumpkin grower, and her grandmothers, whose vibrant flower beds were always bursting with life. Those early experiences instilled in her a deep appreciation for nature, resilience, and the power of growing something from the ground up.

As Co-Founder and Creative Business Lead, Honey ensures that the heart of Inoculum Bio-Solutions stays strong and its vision becomes reality. From business administration and bookkeeping to graphic design and website development, she manages the essential operations that keep everything moving forward.

This work is about more than just soil health and farming - it’s about the future.

As parents, we understand that the choices we make today shape the world we leave behind. Our commitment to responsible land stewardship, food security, and regenerative agriculture isn’t just for our own children—it’s for all future generations. A thriving planet and resilient food systems should be a legacy we all share.

While Honey keeps the business running behind the scenes, Chad is out in the field—crafting biologically rich compost, educating farmers and land stewards, and building relationships within the agriculture community. As the face of Inoculum, he’s the one sparking conversations, leading workshops, and doing the hands-on work to bring healthy soil solutions to life. Together, their combined efforts allow Inoculum to grow into a thriving, impactful business—one that’s rooted in both science and community.
